We did some research and found out about food chains on the rocky shore. Ask a member of room 6 if you are interested in finding out what we learnt.

Food Chains
We have been learning how plants and animals get their energy to grow. Food chains show this transfer of energy. To have a go at a fun food chain activity click here.

Stop Motion Animation...The Onomatopoeia Song.
Our first attempt at stop motion animation. We love singing this song. We will not forget what an onomatopoeia is any time soon.
The Cruise Ship
Today, Room 6 went to the Town Library to and noticed that there were a lot of tourists around. They had stopped in at Gisborne on a huge cruise ship. Our bus driver kindly took us on a detour on the way back to school to see it. After lunch we raced down to the beach so that we could look at it for longer and draw it. It was huge. We discussed all of the cool things that might be on the ship but also did some research on the not so good things. We found out that a cruise ship produces 10 swimming pools full of 'blackwater' each week! This 'blackwater' is made up of all sorts of things including stuff from the toilet!!! What effect does this have on marine animals?
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
S... in maths, over the past week or so, we have been learning about capacity. We watched a short Goldilocks and the Three a Bears animation and began to try to find out which of these bowls would belong to Daddy, Mummy and Baby Bear. The children decided to measure how much sand each one would hold using a cup. Good thinking!!! We then tried to find drink cups for each of the bears using water to measure. Some great learning went on. Goldilocks personal recounts followed in writing too. More blogs on our learning around capacity to follow soon.

The Silly Noun and Verb Game
In Room 6 we have made a new game. We make funny sentences out of nouns and verbs to create silly poems. Have a look. It is helping us to learn to use powerful and exiting verbs in our writing as well as helping us to remember capital letters and full stops. Have a look.

The Magic Bag Game.......a Game of Chance.
In room 6 this week, we have been experimenting with probability and chance. We have been playing coin flipping games and today we invented our own Magic Bag games. The idea of the game is that two players take it in turns to pick a bean/block out of the magic bag. The first player with the most beans/blocks in their colour, after a decided amount of turns, wins. The question is...how do we make sure it is a fair game? We had some very creative ideas. Some buddies even put in extra colours which meant, when picked, both players would get a point. Mrs Yeo was very impressed!!

Maths Fun......Human Bar Graph
In room 6 we have been experimenting with sorting, collecting and presenting data. We have carried out a few investigations. One off our investigations was based around finding out which animals the class think are found on Gisborne's rocky shores. Drop into class to see what we found out! Here are some pictures of the human bar graph we created on Friday.......we have so much fun!

The Shape Game
We are developing our creativity, imagination and visual literacy in Room 6 by playing The Shape Game. We play it on paper and on the interactive whiteboard, independently and as a class. It is great fun to work as a team and create one together. Have a look at Selina's bird. You can have a go yourself here.

Class Pets
In room 6, after reading a range of stories with real and imaginary animals in them, we found ourselves having conversations around crazy class pets. Here we are putting our name tags into a Venn Diagram that shows whether we would like a dragon or a lion as a class pet! Crazy pets also feature in our writing!

Splatter Painting
Today we have been looking at the art work of Jackson Pollock. We decided that instead of signing our names on the class treaty we would create a class spatter paint piece of art work in the style of Jackson Pollock. We have all contributed to the final piece giving our own special splatter to show that we agree to follow our class treaty. Come in and see the final piece and have a go at creating your own at http://jacksonpollock.org/
